How do I register for a tournament?

Before you can register you must have a partner.  Both partners must have a current CBVA annual membership ($25 and is good from Jan 1st to Dec 31st).  One partner (not both) registers the team for the tournament.  Just click on register and follow the prompts.  Online registration is accepted until 5PM the day before the tournament.  You will receive a receipt by email.

How do I cancel my registration?

If it's more than 24 hours in advance, please email us at to cancel your registration. Less than 24 hours in advance, please also contact the Tournament Director (TD contact info can be found by clicking the “Info” button next to the tournament on the schedule), so that we may try to fill your spot.

You will be refunded the full amount so long as you request to cancel before the refund deadline. Please note that the deadline for a refund is 12PM (noon) the day before the tournament for all tournaments except those at Santa Cruz. Check the “Info” button for Santa Cruz tournaments to see the specific refund policy.

What time should I arrive?

It's best to arrive between 8-8:15AM so you have time to park and get settled before you check in at 8:30AM.  Play begins at 9:00AM unless specified on your registration receipt. (Dockweiler has a little different times.)

Can women play in a men's tournament?

No, even if they are "as good" as the men it can affect things in unpredicted ways.  Check out our schedule to see upcoming Coed tournaments.

Levels of Play offered

  • Open or AAA: This is the highest level of play
  • AA: Very strong experienced beach players
  • A: Have developed some strong skills
  • B: Intermediate
  • Unrated: New to the beach game

Can I play any level I want?

If you are an unrated player play the level you think you belong in. You'll quickly learn if you were right and can adjust accordingly next time.

If you have earned a rating, you may play at or above your rating but may not play below your earned rating (even in a coed).

How long does my rating hold?

Your rating holds for the season you earn it and the following year.  On Jan 1st if the rating is not re-earned it will drop down one rating each January.

Can youth members participate in adult tournaments?

Yes, as long as they are of the level of the tournament we welcome advanced youth players.

When I buy a membership when is it good to?

Membership runs Jan 1st to Dec 31st.

What is the differnce between a "AAA" and an "Open"

We have two types of AAA tournaments. One is listed as AAA, the other is listed as Open. Open charges an additional $20 that goes into the prize pool.  That is the only difference between the two. Some players like having a prize pool, some don't, so we offer some of each.

Can rated youth players still play in youth tournaments?

We encourage our youth players to play in adult tournaments and earn ratings. It does not preclude them from playing youth events in the future.

When does online registration close?

To guarantee a playing spot and avoid a $5 registration surcharge, sign up online before 5:00PM on the day preceding the tournament
Online registration will not be accepted after 5:00PM the day prior to the tournament. However, you may try contacting the Tournament Director after this time to inquire about a playing spot.

What should I do if the website is moving slowly or timing out?

Some data-heavy pages will load slower than others (for example, standings or results pages where many player records must be recalled).  However if the website is timing out, please try again in a few hours.  There may be a temporary lag due to the server.

If you are doing something time sensitive when the site times out, like trying to register for a tournament just before online registration closes, please email the CBVA office at
